Getting There

Walking
If you're starting from the Kota Kinabalu Central Market, head south on Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen towards Jalan Padang Merdeka. When you reach the intersection, turn left onto Jalan Padang Merdeka. Continue straight for about 500 meters, and you will see Merdeka Square on your right, just past the Sabah Tourism Board office.

Public Transport (Bus)
From the Jesselton Point ferry terminal, walk to the nearest bus stop. Take any bus heading towards the city center (most buses will). Get off at the stop near the Gaya Street Sunday Market. From there, walk down Gaya Street, turn right onto Jalan Padang Merdeka and continue straight until you reach Merdeka Square, which will be on your left.

If you are in the vicinity of the Atkinson Clock Tower, head south on Jalan Atkinson, then turn left onto Jalan Padang Merdeka. Continue walking straight for about 300 meters, and you will arrive at Merdeka Square on your right.
