Car
If you’re driving to Langkawi Island, you will need to take a ferry from the mainland. Start by getting to the town of Kuala Perlis or Kuala Kedah, both of which have ferry terminals. From Kuala Lumpur, take the North-South Expressway (E1) and follow signs for Alor Setar, then continue to either Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis. The drive takes approximately 5-6 hours. Once at the ferry terminal, purchase a ticket for the ferry to Langkawi Island. The ferry ride typically takes around 1 hour and costs approximately RM 18-30, depending on the terminal and the ferry service.
Public Transportation
To reach Langkawi Island via public transportation, first travel to either Kuala Perlis or Kuala Kedah. If starting from Kuala Lumpur, take a bus from the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) to Alor Setar, which costs around RM 35 and takes approximately 6-7 hours. From Alor Setar, you can take a local bus or taxi to the ferry terminal at Kuala Kedah. Once at the ferry terminal, buy your ferry ticket to Langkawi Island, costing around RM 18-30 and taking about 1 hour. Alternatively, you can take a direct bus from Alor Setar to Kuala Perlis, which will also connect you to the ferry.
Ferry
Once you have arrived at either Kuala Perlis or Kuala Kedah, proceed to the ferry terminal. At the terminal, you will find several ferry operators. It is advisable to check the ferry schedules online or at the terminal as they may vary. After purchasing your ticket, board the ferry and enjoy the scenic ride to Langkawi Island. Ensure you have your ticket ready for inspection during the journey. Upon arrival at the Kuah Jetty on Langkawi Island, you can take a taxi or arrange for a hotel pickup to reach your accommodation.
