Travel Guide to Swettenham Pier Penang

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from the George Town area, head towards Pengkalan Weld. Begin at the Komtar building, a prominent landmark in George Town. From Komtar, walk south along Jalan Penang until you reach Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling. Turn left onto Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling and continue walking until you reach the junction with Jalan Weld Quay. Turn right onto Jalan Weld Quay and walk straight. You will eventually arrive at Swettenham Pier, which is located at the end of Pengkalan Weld. The pier will be visible as you approach.

• Public Bus

  Take the Rapid Penang Bus number 101, 102, or 104 from any bus stop in George Town that serves these routes. Ask the bus driver to drop you off at the 'Weld Quay' stop. Once you alight, walk towards the waterfront; Swettenham Pier is a short walk from there, located at Pengkalan Weld. Follow the signs to the pier, and you will find it easily.

• Trishaw

  You can hire a trishaw from any tourist areas around George Town. Negotiate the fare with the trishaw rider to take you to Swettenham Pier. Most riders are familiar with the area and will know the best route to get you to Pengkalan Weld. Enjoy the scenic ride through the streets of George Town as you make your way to the pier.

• Bicycle Rental

  If you prefer to cycle, consider renting a bicycle from one of the many rental shops in George Town. From central George Town, head towards Jalan Penang, then turn left onto Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling. Follow this road until you reach Jalan Weld Quay. Continue along Jalan Weld Quay until you reach Swettenham Pier. There are bicycle lanes available in some areas, making it a pleasant ride.
