Getting there

Ferry

From Malé International Airport (MLE), take a direct ferry to Thoddoo. Nasru Speed operates a ferry once daily, which costs $62 and takes about 55 minutes. Alternatively, take the MTCC public ferry from Malé, which takes approximately 3 hours to Rasdhoo, then another 1.5 hours to Thoddoo. This option costs around $4. Check the MTCC website for updated schedules.

Speedboat

Take a speedboat from Malé Airport. Tourist speedboats depart from the Malé Airport Jetty once or twice a day, taking approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. Ensure you reserve a seat in advance online or through your accommodation. Expect to pay around $35 per person.

Thoddoo Island, located 67 km northwest of Malé, offers an authentic Maldivian experience with its unique blend of natural beauty and local culture. Unlike resort islands, Thoddoo allows visitors to experience the Maldivian way of life, with its friendly locals and laid-back atmosphere.The island is known for its lush agricultural fields, especially its watermelon farms, which are a must-see. Visitors can explore the local farms and taste fresh tropical fruits. Thoddoo boasts pristine white-sand beaches and turquoise waters perfect for snorkeling and diving. Two bikini beaches offer tourists designated areas to wear swimwear. The island also has historical significance, with ruins of an ancient Buddhist temple, including a Roman coin from 90 BC and a Buddha statue.With a population of around 1,500, Thoddoo is large enough to explore by bicycle, with winding paths through farmland and jungle. Snorkeling with turtles is a popular activity, with vibrant marine life easily accessible from the beach.
