Erected during the presidency of Alpha Oumar Konaré, with the support of his Minister of Culture, Pascal Baba Koulibali, the obelisk has become a significant cultural symbol.The obelisk's design, with a quadrangular block emerging from a raised circular tower accessible by stairs, draws inspiration from ancient Egyptian art. Its four sides are engraved with ideograms from N'ko, Bozo, Bambara, and Dogon scripts, with suggested translations available in French. These inscriptions evoke the resilience of the Mandé, comparing present-day Mali to a boat navigating turbulent waters without capsizing.The monument not only celebrates Mali's heritage but also stands as a beacon of hope, symbolizing unity and resilience.
