Il-Ħagar: Heart of Gozo Museum

Il-Ħagar, also known as the Heart of Gozo Museum, is a cultural center in the heart of Victoria, Gozo's main town. Established in 1998 and opened in 2013, the museum aims to provide visitors with an authentic experience of Gozitan heritage and Christian culture.The museum houses a collection of artistic and historical artifacts from St George's Parish Basilica, along with donations and bequests. A highlight is the Joseph Vella Music Archive, featuring 156 original compositions and memorabilia from the professor. The museum also displays sacred relics, papal artifacts, and archaeological finds.Visitors can explore permanent and temporary exhibitions, audio-visual rooms, and a rooftop terrace bar with views of St George's Basilica and Victoria. The museum actively engages in Gozo's cultural scene, hosting exhibitions, lectures, and educational activities. It also promotes Christian heritage. Il-Ħaġar is accessible to persons with limited mobility and is expanding its facilities to cater to those with special needs.
