Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, head towards the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. Use the GPS coordinates 38.9966789, -77.2491701 to navigate directly to the Little Sister Falls area. Once you arrive at the parking area near the Olmstead Island Bridges Trail, park your vehicle. Note that there may be a parking fee, so ensure you have cash or a card for payment.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Little Sister Falls using public transportation, take a Metro train to the Grosvenor-Strathmore station on the Red Line. From there, you can catch a Ride On Bus (Route 34 towards Potomac) which will take you closer to the C&O Canal area. Disembark at the stop nearest to the entrance of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. From the bus stop, it will be a short walk to the Olmstead Island Bridges Trail where you can begin your hike towards Little Sister Falls.

• Walking

  Once you are on the Olmstead Island Bridges Trail, follow the trail markers that lead towards Little Sister Falls. The path is well-maintained, but be prepared for some rocky and uneven terrain. The falls are approximately a 0.5-mile hike from the trailhead, so ensure you wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water to stay hydrated.
