Car
If you're travelling by car, start from the nearest major town in the Eastern Shore, such as Easton, MD. Head south on MD-329 S and merge onto US-50 E toward the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Cross the bridge and continue on US-301 S. Follow signs for US-301 S/MD-5 S toward Waldorf. In Waldorf, continue on MD-5 S until you reach the intersection with MD-235 S. Take MD-235 S until you reach the intersection with MD-4 S. Continue on MD-4 S, which will turn into MD-5 S. Follow MD-5 S until you reach the intersection with Point Lookout Rd. Turn left onto Point Lookout Rd. After approximately 10 miles, you will arrive at Point Lookout Lighthouse located at 10350 Point Lookout Rd, Scotland, MD 20687. There is no entrance fee for visiting the lighthouse.
Public Transportation
If you're using public transportation, first travel to a major city in Maryland, such as Baltimore or Washington, D.C. From there, take a Greyhound or Megabus to Leonardtown, MD. Upon arrival in Leonardtown, you will need to take a taxi or rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft) to reach Point Lookout Lighthouse. The distance from Leonardtown to the lighthouse is approximately 17 miles. Taxis may cost around $30-$50 depending on the time of day and availability.
Bicycle
For adventurous travelers, biking to Point Lookout Lighthouse can be a great way to explore the area. You can start from Leonardtown, MD, and take MD-5 S. The ride is approximately 17 miles and will take you through scenic roads. Be sure to wear a helmet and follow all traffic regulations.
