Getting There

• Car

  To reach Isla del Carmen by car, first make your way to the nearest major city, Ciudad Constitución, located in Baja California Sur. From Ciudad Constitución, take Highway 1 south towards La Paz. After approximately 90 kilometers, you will reach the town of Loreto. Continue on Highway 1 for another 100 kilometers until you reach the junction for Highway 12 near the city of Ciudad Insurgentes. Take Highway 12 towards the coast, which will eventually lead you to the port of San Carlos. From San Carlos, you will need to take a boat to Isla del Carmen. Ensure you check the local boat schedules, as they can vary. The boat ride takes approximately 30 minutes and may cost around 300 MXN per person, depending on the service provider.

• Public Transportation

  If you prefer public transportation, you can take a bus from La Paz to Ciudad Constitución. Once in Ciudad Constitución, transfer to a local bus heading to Loreto. From Loreto, continue on a bus to Ciudad Insurgentes. Upon reaching Ciudad Insurgentes, you will need to arrange for a taxi or local transport to get to San Carlos, where you can catch a boat to Isla del Carmen. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they can be limited, and the total travel time could exceed 6 hours depending on wait times and connections. The boat to Isla del Carmen will again cost around 300 MXN.

• Taxi/Local Transport

  Once you arrive at San Carlos, you can either walk to the port if you are close by or take a taxi to the boat launch area. Make sure to confirm the boat departure times, as they may not run frequently throughout the day. Always ask about the price of the taxi beforehand to avoid any surprises. Prepare for a scenic boat ride across to Isla del Carmen, where you can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding waters.
