Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Walking
From the central area of Palenque, start at the Parque Central (Central Park). Head southeast on Avenida 16 de Septiembre for about 500 meters until you reach the intersection with Carr. Zona Arqueológica. Turn left onto Carr. Zona Arqueológica and continue walking for approximately 1 kilometer. You will see Palenque's Sign on your right, just before you reach the entrance to the archaeological site. This walk will take around 15-20 minutes.
Bicycle Rental
If you prefer to cycle, you can rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops near Parque Central. Once you have a bike, follow the same route as walking: head southeast on Avenida 16 de Septiembre, turn left onto Carr. Zona Arqueológica, and ride for about 1 kilometer. Bicycling may take around 10 minutes. Rental costs usually range from 100 to 150 MXN per hour.
Colectivo (Shared Taxi)
For a quicker option, you can take a colectivo (shared taxi) to the archaeological site. Head to the main bus terminal in Palenque, located on Avenida 20 de Noviembre. Look for colectivos heading to 'Zona Arqueológica de Palenque'. The fare is approximately 25-30 MXN per person, and the ride will take around 10-15 minutes. Ask the driver to drop you off at the archaeological site, and Palenque's Sign is located just outside.
