Public Bus
To reach the Otay Mountain Trailhead from central Tijuana, begin by taking the Tijuana bus line that heads towards the Otay Mesa border crossing. You can catch a bus from Avenida Revolución, near the tourist areas. Make sure to ask the driver if the bus goes to Otay Mesa. Once you arrive at the Otay Mesa border, you'll need to walk across the border into the United States. After crossing, you can catch a local bus (like the 905) from the border station that goes towards Jamul. Get off at the stop closest to Otay Lakes Road, and from there, it’s about a 10-minute walk to the trailhead.
Taxi
If you'd prefer a more direct route, consider taking a taxi from Tijuana. You can hail a taxi from a designated taxi stand or use a rideshare app if available. Instruct the driver to take you to '14615 Otay Lakes Rd, Jamul, CA 91935'. The journey should take about 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. Make sure to confirm the fare before you get in, or request that the driver use the meter.
Walking from the nearest bus stop
If you take the public bus to the nearest stop on Otay Lakes Road, you will need to walk approximately 0.5 miles (about 10 minutes) to reach the Otay Mountain Trailhead. Head northeast on Otay Lakes Road until you see the entrance to the trailhead on your left. Be cautious as you walk along the road, as it may not have sidewalks in parts.
