Getting There

  • Car

    From anywhere in the Iron Range, head southwest towards Minnesota State Highway 53. Merge onto MN-53 South and continue driving for approximately 50 miles. Keep an eye out for signs directing you towards St. Paul; you will eventually merge onto I-35E South. After about 5 miles on I-35E, take exit 109B for I-94 West toward Minneapolis. Stay on I-94 for about 5 miles, then take exit 241B for Snelling Ave. Follow Snelling Ave South for about 2 miles until you reach the intersection with W. 7th St. Turn left onto W. 7th St and continue for about 1 mile. Then, turn right onto Snelling Lake Rd, which leads directly to Fort Snelling State Park. Parking is available on-site, and there may be a day-use fee for parking.

    If you prefer public transportation, start from any location in Iron Range and take a bus to the nearest major city with transit options, such as Duluth. From Duluth, you can take a Greyhound bus or find local transit to reach St. Paul. Once in St. Paul, you can use Metro Transit services. From downtown St. Paul, take the Metro Green Line light rail towards Union Depot and transfer to the Metro Bus Route 54 heading towards Snelling Ave & W. 7th St. Get off at the Snelling Lake Rd stop, which is a short walk from the park entrance.
