Car
If you are traveling by car within the Minnesota Driftless Area, head towards Hastings, MN. From Interstate 94, take the exit for Highway 61 South towards Hastings. Continue on Highway 61 for approximately 10 miles. At the roundabout, take the first exit onto Peller Ave S. Follow Peller Ave S for about 2 miles, and Afton State Park will be located on your left at 6959 Peller Ave S, Hastings, MN 55033. Parking is available on site, and there may be a $7 daily vehicle permit fee required for entry.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take a bus from the nearest city in the Driftless Area to Hastings, MN. For example, if you are in Rochester, MN, take the Greyhound bus to Hastings. Once in Hastings, you can use a rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft) or local taxi services to reach Afton State Park at 6959 Peller Ave S. Make sure to check the bus schedules and plan your trip accordingly, as public transportation may have limited hours.
Bicycle
For those who enjoy biking, you can cycle to Afton State Park from nearby areas. Use local bike paths and roads leading from Hastings. From downtown Hastings, follow the Mississippi River Trail until you reach the park entrance. Make sure to wear a helmet and bring plenty of water, as the ride can be strenuous in places. A bike permit is not required, but there may be a $7 daily vehicle permit fee if parking a vehicle.
