Magnolia Hall, constructed in 1858, stands as a testament to the wealth and architectural tastes of pre-Civil War Natchez. Thomas Henderson, a successful cotton broker, commissioned the grand Greek Revival mansion, intending it to be a showpiece. Designed by J. Edwards Smith, a Massachusetts architect, the house boasts a striking brownstone exterior, one of only two remaining in Natchez.The mansion's name derives from the plaster magnolia blossoms adorning the parlor ceiling. Inside, visitors can explore rooms filled with mid-19th century antiques and a costume collection on the upper floors. A shell from a Union gunboat that struck the kitchen during the Civil War remains embedded in the wall, a reminder of the town's tumultuous past.Today, the Natchez Garden Club maintains and operates Magnolia Hall as a museum. Tours are available, providing insights into the Henderson family and the history of the house. The property also features a gift shop and a parterre butterfly garden.

Magnolia Hall is located at 215 S Pearl St in the uptown Natchez. From the Natchez Visitor Center, head north on Canal Street, then turn right onto Washington Street. Continue onto Washington Street, then turn left onto S Pearl Street. Magnolia Hall will be on your left. Walking is a great way to see other historic buildings in the area.
