Discover more about McRaven Tour Home

McRaven Tour Home, nestled in Vicksburg, Mississippi, offers a unique journey through time, blending architectural history with chilling tales of the supernatural. Constructed in three distinct phases, the home embodies the Frontier, Empire, and Greek Revival styles, earning it the moniker "Time Capsule of the South". The original section, built around 1797 by highwayman Andrew Glass, served as a hideout for his ill-gotten gains from travelers along the Natchez Trace. The kitchen, with its distinctive blueberry and buttermilk plaster, remains largely unchanged. In 1836, Sheriff Stephen Howard expanded the property, adding rooms in the Empire style. Tragedy struck when his young wife, Mary Elizabeth, died in childbirth, and her spirit is said to still roam the home. John H. Bobb completed the mansion in 1849, adding a grand parlor and master suite in the Greek Revival style. During the Civil War, the house served as a Confederate field hospital, enduring cannon fire during the Siege of Vicksburg. Today, McRaven is open for guided tours that delve into its architectural evolution, historical significance, and ghostly legends. Visitors can explore rooms filled with period antiques and wander the grounds, where remnants of a Confederate campsite and burial ground have been found. McRaven has been featured on A&E, The Travel Channel, and National Geographic, solidifying its reputation as one of Mississippi's most intriguing and haunted destinations.
