The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation (SCHF), located in Vicksburg, Mississippi, is dedicated to preserving and promoting the diverse cultural heritage of the city, the Mississippi Delta, and the broader American South. Established in 1994, the foundation occupies the historic St. Francis Xavier Convent and Academy, transforming these landmark buildings into a vibrant cultural center. The complex comprises five architecturally significant buildings, reflecting American architectural history from 1830 to 1955. These include the Cobb House (circa 1830), the Sisters of Mercy Convent (1868), the Auditorium (1885), the Academy Building (1937), and the O'Beirne Gymnasium (1955). The property is a Mississippi Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. From 1860 to 1991, the Sisters of Mercy taught and ministered in these buildings. In 1994, the City of Vicksburg established the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation to preserve the buildings and create a cultural center. Today, the SCHF offers a wide range of cultural and educational programs, including art workshops, concerts, exhibits, and lectures. It also hosts community events such as the Star-Spangled Night Run and the Over the River Run. The SCHF also provides space for rentals, such as weddings and meetings.
