Minnesota Memorial: A Tribute to the North Star State's Valor

On the north and south sides of the column's foundation, the word 'Minnesota' is sculpted. At the base, a raised bronze statue of a woman, sculpted by William Couper, represents the 'Statue of Peace'. She holds a sword and shield from both the Union and Confederate armies, symbolizing the end of conflict and the hope for reconciliation.
