Discover more about Sedalia Trust Building

The Sedalia Trust Building, located at 100 W 4th St in Sedalia, Missouri, has been a prominent fixture of the city's Courthouse Square for over 135 years. Built in 1887, the building showcases a unique blend of Romanesque and Chateauesque architectural styles, reflecting the economic confidence of Sedalia during the Gilded Age. The building's construction was commissioned by the Missouri Trust Company, later reorganized as the Sedalia Trust Company. The building's facade is made of local Missouri limestone, and its design features a multi-gabled and towered roofline with embellished walls. Originally, the building had three stories with elevated entrances; however, alterations later changed the floor levels to four stories and lowered the entrances to street level. Despite these interior changes, the exterior has largely retained its original character. Throughout its history, the Sedalia Trust Building has served various purposes. The Missouri Trust Company occupied the building until 1948, after which it housed other financial institutions until the late 1970s. After a period of vacancy, the building was renovated and now houses a restaurant and other businesses, contributing to the revitalization of downtown Sedalia. The Sedalia Trust Building is a reminder of Sedalia's past and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
