The Alley of Classics (Aleea Clasicilor) is a sculptural complex nestled within the Stephen the Great Park in central Chișinău, Moldova. This tranquil walkway features red granite busts of prominent literary figures and political leaders from Moldova, offering visitors a serene escape and a glimpse into the nation's rich cultural heritage. The alley stretches between Ștefan cel Mare Boulevard and a bronze bust of Alexander Pushkin, which stands atop a granite column. The alley was established in 1958 and quickly became a key tourist attraction in Chișinău. Initially, the alley featured only twelve busts. However, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, local authorities expanded the collection to include busts of Romanian and Moldovan writers and poets who had been censored during the Soviet era. Today, the Alley of Classics contains 28 busts in alphabetical order. The concept for the sculptural complex was initially proposed by interwar sculptor Alexandru Plămădeală, who dreamed of creating an open-air museum. The design was inspired by the sculptural complex in Cișmigiu Gardens, Bucharest. A visit to the Alley of Classics provides an opportunity to reflect on Moldova's artistic community.
