Discover more about Valea Morilor Park

Valea Morilor Park, or Valley of the Mills Park, is a sprawling recreational area in the heart of Chișinău, Moldova. Established in 1950 at the initiative of Leonid Brezhnev, it was originally named the 'Central Park of Culture and Rest of the Leninist Commune'. The park's current name references the watermills that once dotted the area. The park spans 114 hectares, with Valea Morilor Lake at its center, covering 34 hectares. Visitors can enjoy scenic paths for walking and cycling, relax under the shade of diverse trees, and engage in water activities like rowing and paddle boating. A sandy beach is also available for sunbathing and swimming in the summer. In winter, the lake sometimes transforms into an urban ice rink. The park features playgrounds, sports fields, and open spaces suitable for picnics and cultural events. A highlight is the impressive rotunda and the Cascades Staircase, a monumental set of 218 steps leading to a panoramic viewpoint above the lake. The staircase, recently restored, is longer than Odessa's Potemkin Steps and is flanked by fountains and statues. Other attractions include the Summer Theater (Teatrul de Vară), also known as the Green Theater, which was built in 1957 and has a seating capacity of 6,700, making it the largest open-air theater in Europe.
