Discover more about Eternity Memorial Complex

The Eternity Memorial Complex, located on Strada Pantelimon Halippa in Chișinău, Moldova, is a significant monument dedicated to the soldiers who perished in the Great Patriotic War (World War II) and the War of Independence of 1991-1992. Originally known as the Victory Memorial during the Soviet era, it was inaugurated on May 9, 1975, marking the 30th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory in World War II. The complex was built on the site of three old cemeteries. The most prominent feature is a 25-meter high pyramid, composed of five stylized bayonets representing the five years of the war. These bayonets, made of black and red granite, are inscribed with the years 1941-1945 and encircle the eternal flame. The arrangement used hundreds of cubic meters of granite brought from Karelia. Other elements include a commemorative stone shaped like a flower, with the names of Moldovan soldiers who died during World War II. The Heroes Cemetery, where soldiers who fell during the Iași-Chișinău military operation in August 1944 are buried, lies in the background. A symbolic belfry evokes the war's horrors, and a bronze crown bears the inscription, "We didn't forget you". A black cross marks the graves of fallen German soldiers. The monument "Grieving Mother" is dedicated to the War of Independence of 1991-1992. The complex is a place for Moldovans to pay tribute to the fallen. Visitors can explore the grounds, view the sculptural works, and reflect on Moldova's history.
