The Monument to Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici, located at the central entrance of Valea Morilor Park in Chișinău, commemorates the lives and artistic legacy of Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici. These siblings were instrumental in shaping Moldova's post-Soviet cultural landscape with their songs that explored themes of love, nature, and national identity. Their music became a symbol of the struggle for independence of Moldova. The monument, created by sculptor Iurie Canașin and inaugurated in 1999, is also known as “Requiem for Love” or “Two Twin Hearts”. It serves as a gathering point for admirers of their art and a poignant reminder of their contribution to Moldovan folk music. Visitors are often moved by the monument's sculptures, which capture the musicians’ passion and dedication. Ion Aldea-Teodorovici (born in 1954) was a composer and singer who wrote over 300 songs and film scores, while Doina Aldea-Teodorovici (born in 1958) was a singer, dancer, and foreign literature teacher. The couple tragically died in a car crash in 1992, an event that was considered a national tragedy. Their son established the “Doua Inimi Gemene” festival in their memory. The monument stands opposite the main building of Kishinev State University.
