Getting There

  • Hiking from Lake McDonald Lodge

    Start your journey at the Lake McDonald Lodge. From the lodge, take the Trail of the Cedars, which is a short, easy loop trail that showcases beautiful cedar trees. After completing this loop, continue on the Avalanche Lake Trail. Follow the signs for Avalanche Lake, and enjoy the breathtaking scenery along the way. The trail is approximately 5 miles round trip. Once you reach Avalanche Lake, enjoy the stunning views before retracing your steps back to the lodge.

  • Hiking from Apgar Visitor Center

    Begin your adventure at the Apgar Visitor Center. From the center, head towards the Rocky Point Trail. This 2.8-mile round-trip trail offers scenic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. After enjoying the views at Rocky Point, return to the visitor center and take the shuttle bus to the Going-to-the-Sun Road. Get off at the stop closest to Paradise Meadow, and follow the signs to the meadow. The final stretch involves a short, easy hike to reach Paradise Meadow.
