Car
From the center of Žabljak, take the road towards the Durmitor National Park entrance. Follow the signs for the park. After entering the park, continue on the main road until you reach the turnoff for the road leading to Zla Kolata. This road is unpaved and may require a 4x4 vehicle depending on the weather conditions. Drive carefully as the road can be rugged. You will need to park your car at the designated parking area near the trailhead. The parking is usually free, but ensure you check for any local regulations.
Hiking
From the parking area, you will need to hike to reach Zla Kolata. The hike is approximately 5-7 kilometers depending on the route you choose. Follow the marked trail towards Zla Kolata. It is advisable to carry water, snacks, and appropriate hiking gear. The trail may take around 2-3 hours. There are no fees for accessing the hiking trails, but it’s important to respect nature and pack out what you pack in.
Public Transportation
If you are relying on public transport, first take a bus from Podgorica or other major cities to Žabljak. From Žabljak, you can hire a local taxi or join a tour group that offers transportation to Zla Kolata. Make sure to agree on the fare beforehand. The taxi ride to the trailhead will take about 30 minutes and should cost around 20-30 Euros, depending on negotiation and the driver.
