Getting There

Walking
Start from the Kotor Old Town, specifically at the Sea Gate (the main entrance to the Old Town). From the Sea Gate, walk straight along the waterfront promenade (Kotor's waterfront is called the Riva). Continue along this path until you reach the end of the promenade. Once you reach the end, you will see the stairs leading up to the Fortress of St. John (Fortress of San Giovanni). Begin your ascent up these stairs. The path is well-marked and consists of about 1,350 steps. It can be steep and may take some time, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water. As you climb, you will encounter various viewpoints where you can pause and enjoy the scenery of Kotor Bay and the surrounding mountains. Continue climbing until you reach the Observation Post area, located near the upper fortifications of St. John Fortress. The Observation Post offers stunning panoramic views of the bay and the town.
