Getting There
-
Car
If you are driving from the city of Maputo, head northeast on Avenida Julius Nyerere towards Avenida 25 de Setembro. After about 5 kilometers, merge onto the EN1 highway. Continue on EN1 for approximately 25 kilometers. Look for signs indicating the turn-off to Maputo River. The river is located just off the main highway. There is parking available near the riverbank, but be aware that you may need to pay a small fee (around 50-100 MZN) for parking.
-
Public Transportation
To reach Maputo River using public transport, take a chapa (shared taxi) from the central market in Maputo. Look for a chapa heading towards Matola or the EN1 highway. The fare is typically around 15-25 MZN. Once you get to the EN1, ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest stop for Maputo River. From there, you may need to walk approximately 1 kilometer to reach the river itself. Keep an eye out for local signs or ask locals for directions to ensure you’re going the right way.
-
Bicycle
For the more adventurous, consider cycling to Maputo River. Start in the city center and head towards Avenida Julius Nyerere. Follow the same route as if driving, taking the EN1 highway. The journey is about 30 kilometers and can take around 2 hours depending on your cycling speed. Ensure you wear a helmet and stay on the shoulder of the road, as traffic can be heavy. Bring water and snacks for the ride, and be prepared for some hills along the way.
