Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the nearest town, which is Pakokku. From Pakokku, head southeast on the Pakkoku-Mindat Road (also known as the Pakokku-Myingyan Road) for approximately 36 kilometers until you reach the junction at Kyaukpadaung. At the junction, continue straight on the road marked towards Mt Popa for another 13 kilometers. As you approach Mt Popa, you will see the prominent volcanic peak rising in the distance. There are parking areas available near the base of the mountain.

To reach Mt Popa by public transportation, you can take a bus or shared taxi from Pakokku. Buses regularly depart from Pakokku's main bus station heading towards Kyaukpadaung. The fare is around 1,000 Kyat (approximately $0.70) and the journey takes about 45 minutes. Once you arrive at Kyaukpadaung, you can find shared taxis or motorbike taxis that will take you directly to Mt Popa for an additional cost of about 3,000 to 5,000 Kyat (around $2 to $3). Ensure to confirm the fare before starting your journey.
