Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from Bago city center and head south on the Bago-Hpa Yar Gyi Road (also known as the Yangon-Bago Road). Continue driving for approximately 35 kilometers until you reach Hpa Yar Gyi. Once in Hpa Yar Gyi, look for signs directing you to Wingabaw Elephant Camp, which is located at the coordinates 17.4735622, 96.4706268. You may need to use a GPS for the final approach since the camp is situated a bit off the main road. Ensure to check the road conditions, as some smaller roads can be less maintained.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a bus from Bago to Hpa Yar Gyi. Buses operate frequently from the Bago bus station and the fare is approximately 1,000-2,000 MMK (Myanmar Kyat). The journey may take about 1-1.5 hours depending on traffic. Once you arrive in Hpa Yar Gyi, you can hire a local taxi or a motorcycle taxi to take you the last few kilometers to Wingabaw Elephant Camp. Expect to pay around 2,000-5,000 MMK for the taxi ride, depending on your negotiating skills and the distance.

• Motorcycle

  If you're feeling adventurous, consider renting a motorcycle in Bago and riding to Wingabaw Elephant Camp. This option gives you the flexibility to explore the surrounding area. Rent a motorcycle for about 7,000-10,000 MMK per day. Follow the same route as by car, ensuring you have a valid driver's license. Once you reach Hpa Yar Gyi, you can navigate to the camp using GPS or local signs. Be cautious on the roads, as traffic can be unpredictable.
