Getting There

  • Car

If you are traveling by car in the Sagaing Region, start from the center of Sagaing city. Head southwest on 12th Street until you reach the junction with Sagaing Hill Road. Turn left onto Sagaing Hill Road and follow it for about 10 kilometers. You will see the scenic views on both sides as you approach the Thahaung Pagoda, which is a notable landmark in the area. Ensure to have local maps or GPS navigation as some roads may not be well-marked. Parking is available near the pagoda.

  • Public Transportation

To reach your destination using public transportation, start at the main bus terminal in Sagaing. Look for the local minibuses heading towards Sagaing Hill; these are usually marked with signs in Burmese, so asking a local for help is advisable. The fare is approximately 500 kyats. The journey will take around 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. Once you arrive at the foot of the hill, you may have to walk for about 15 minutes to reach the pagoda, as the minibuses cannot drive all the way up.

  • Taxi or Ride-Hailing Service

You can also opt for a taxi or a ride-hailing service, such as Grab, which is available in Sagaing. Simply input your destination (e.g., Thahaung Pagoda) in the app. The cost for a taxi ride from the city center to the pagoda is around 3,000 to 5,000 kyats, depending on traffic and your negotiation skills. This option is more convenient if you are traveling with luggage or prefer a direct route without the hassle of public transport.
