Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Dawei, the capital of Tanintharyi Region. Head southeast on the Ayeyarwady Road (Hwy 1) for about 20 km. After passing by the Dawei River, continue straight until you reach the junction at the foot of the hill leading to Shin Maw Pagoda. Turn left onto a smaller road that leads uphill. Follow the signs to Shin Maw Pagoda, which is a further 3 km up the hill. Parking is available near the pagoda.

  • Public Bus

    To reach Shin Maw Pagoda by public transportation, catch a bus from Dawei to the nearest village. Look for buses heading to Myeik or Kyunsu that stop at the Shin Maw Pagoda junction. The bus fare is approximately 1,000 MMK (Myanmar Kyat) for the trip. Once you reach the junction, you can either walk the 3 km uphill or hire a local taxi or motorbike for about 3,000 MMK to take you directly to the pagoda.

    If you prefer a quicker option, you can hire a motorbike taxi from Dawei. Negotiate the fare beforehand; it should be around 10,000 MMK for a round trip to Shin Maw Pagoda.
