Car
From the main town in Damaraland, such as Twyfelfontein or Khorixas, head south on the C39 road. Continue driving south for approximately 120 kilometers (about 75 miles). Along the way, you'll pass through scenic landscapes, so be sure to enjoy the views. Once you reach the junction with the C12 road, turn left onto the C12. Follow the C12 for around 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) until you reach the Fish River Canyon. The entrance is well-marked, and you will find parking available.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, you can take a bus from Windhoek to Keetmanshoop, which is the nearest major town to Fish River Canyon. From Keetmanshoop, you may need to hire a taxi or arrange a shuttle service to reach the canyon, as public transport options are limited in this remote area. The taxi ride from Keetmanshoop to Fish River Canyon will take approximately 2-3 hours and may cost around 1,500 Namibian Dollars (NAD). Make sure to negotiate the fare in advance.
Guided Tour
Consider booking a guided tour from one of the local tour operators in Damaraland. These tours often include transportation from your accommodation directly to Fish River Canyon. This option can provide you with insight and knowledge about the area, as well as ensure that you have a hassle-free experience. Prices for guided tours vary widely, typically ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 NAD per person, depending on the length and inclusions of the tour.
