If you are starting from the Namibia Craft Centre, exit the centre and head southwest on Tal Street. Continue straight for about 500 meters until you reach the intersection with Robert Mugabe Avenue. Turn left onto Robert Mugabe Avenue and walk for approximately 1 kilometer. You will pass by several shops and cafes along the way. Keep an eye out for the large statue of the hero in a park on your left. Once you reach the intersection with Sam Nujoma Drive, turn right and walk another 300 meters. The War Memorial will be on your left, located in a small park area.

From the central area of Windhoek, such as the Independence Memorial Museum, head southeast on Franz Koenig Street. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with John Meinert Street. Turn left and walk along John Meinert Street for about 800 meters. You will pass by various local businesses. When you reach the intersection with Robert Mugabe Avenue, turn right and walk for another 500 meters. The War Memorial 1897 will be on your right, situated in a landscaped park.

If you are near the Windhoek Central Market, start by heading north on Lüderitz Street. Walk towards the intersection with Sam Nujoma Drive. Turn left onto Sam Nujoma Drive and continue walking for about 600 meters. You will see a large park area on your left. When you reach the intersection with Robert Mugabe Avenue, cross the street. The War Memorial 1897 is located just a short distance ahead in that park.
