Getting There

• Car

  To reach Kanchenjunga Base Camp from Kathmandu, you will first need to drive or take a taxi to the town of Taplejung. Start by heading east from Kathmandu on the Arniko Highway towards Bhaktapur and continue to the town of Dhulikhel. From Dhulikhel, follow the signs to the Sindhuli Corridor. This route takes you through beautiful landscapes and ends at the town of Bhadrapur. From Bhadrapur, you can take a local bus or hire a car to Taplejung, which is approximately 5-6 hours away. The total travel time from Kathmandu to Taplejung is around 12-15 hours depending on traffic and road conditions.

• Public Transportation

  If you prefer public transportation, you can take a bus from Kathmandu to Taplejung. Buses leave from the New Bus Park in Kathmandu, and the journey can take anywhere from 12 to 16 hours. It's advisable to book a 'tourist' bus for a more comfortable ride. Once you arrive in Taplejung, you can hire a local jeep or take a trek from there to the Kanchenjunga Base Camp. The trek to the base camp typically takes 8-10 days, depending on your pace and acclimatization needs.

• Local Trekking

  From Taplejung, you can start your trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp. The trek usually starts from the village of Suketar, which is accessible by a short jeep ride from Taplejung. The trek will take you through beautiful rhododendron forests and traditional villages, with stunning views of the mountains. Make sure to hire a local guide and porters for safety and assistance, as this area is less frequented by tourists and has limited infrastructure.
