Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from South Lake Tahoe, head northwest on US-50 W. After about 15 miles, merge onto CA-89 N toward Truckee. Continue on CA-89 N for approximately 10 miles until you reach Tahoma. Once in Tahoma, look for signs directing you to the Rail Tracks. The parking area is located near the entrance to the tracks, where you can park your vehicle. Make sure you have enough fuel as there are limited gas stations in the area.

• Public Transportation

  To reach the Rail Tracks using public transportation, you can take the Tahoe Area Regional Transit (TART) bus. Board the TART route 22 from various points in South Lake Tahoe or Kings Beach, heading toward Tahoma. The bus will take you directly to Tahoma, where you will need to disembark at the Tahoma stop. From there, it's a short walk to the Rail Tracks. Check the TART schedule for bus times, as they may vary seasonally. Note that the fare for the TART bus is typically around $3 per ride.

• Bicycle

  If you're feeling adventurous and would like to bike to the Rail Tracks, you can rent a bicycle from a local shop in South Lake Tahoe. Head north on CA-89 from South Lake Tahoe, which has designated bike lanes. The ride is approximately 15 miles and offers beautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Once you reach Tahoma, follow the signs to the Rail Tracks. Ensure to wear a helmet and bring water for the ride.
