Experience Sourland Mountain Preserve

Getting There

  • Car

    From Appalachian Trail, take Route 206 South towards Hillsborough. Continue on Route 206 for approximately 10 miles until you reach the intersection with Route 518. Turn right onto Route 518 and follow it for about 2 miles. Then, turn left onto East Mountain Road. The Sourland Mountain Preserve will be on your left at 421 E Mountain Rd, Hillsborough Township, NJ 08844. There is no entry fee to access the preserve.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Sourland Mountain Preserve via public transportation, take NJ Transit’s Raritan Valley Line train from your nearest station to the Appalachian Trail. Get off at the Bridgewater station. From there, you can catch the Somerset County Bus Route 880 towards Hillsborough. Request to be dropped off at the nearest stop to East Mountain Road and then walk approximately 1 mile east on East Mountain Road until you reach the preserve. Make sure to check the NJ Transit schedule for train and bus times, as they can vary. There may be ticket costs associated with the train and bus.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer cycling, you can ride from the Appalachian Trail towards Hillsborough. Use local roads to navigate south on Route 206 and then follow the same route as the car directions.
