    Getting There

    Bus

    To get to the Bronx Zoo from Paterson, head to the nearest NJ Transit bus stop. You can catch the NJ Transit Bus #190 towards New York Port Authority. Board the bus and stay on it for approximately 30 minutes. Get off at the stop at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue in Manhattan. Once there, transfer to the Metro Subway by following the signs to the subway station. Take the B train towards the Bronx (you may also take the D train). After about 15 minutes, get off at the Bedford Park Blvd station. From the station, walk east towards Southern Blvd, and the Bronx Zoo will be just a short walk from there.

    Train

    Begin your journey at the Paterson train station. Take the NJ Transit train on the Main/Bergen County Line heading towards Hoboken. After approximately 30 minutes of travel, transfer at Secaucus Junction to a train on the NJ Transit North Jersey Coast Line or Raritan Valley Line. Get off at the next stop, which should be Penn Station in New York City. From Penn Station, take the Metro Subway by following the signs to the subway station. Board the B or D train towards the Bronx. Get off at the Bedford Park Blvd station and walk east towards Southern Blvd. The Bronx Zoo will be just a short walk away.

    Walk/Transit Combination

    If you prefer a more scenic route, start at the Great Falls National Historical Park in Paterson. From there, walk north for about 0.5 miles to the Paterson train station. Take the NJ Transit train on the Main/Bergen County Line towards Hoboken. After about 30 minutes, transfer at Secaucus Junction to a train heading toward New York City. Get off at Penn Station.
