Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Lake Placid, head south on Main Street toward the intersection with Route 86. Continue walking until you reach the intersection and turn left onto Route 86. Follow Route 86 for approximately 1.5 miles until you reach the intersection with Route 3. At this point, you can take the local bus or continue walking along Route 86.

  • Public Transportation (Bus)

    At the intersection of Route 86 and Route 3, look for the local bus stop. Take the bus that heads towards Saranac Lake and ask the driver for the stop nearest to Bloomingdale. Once you arrive in Bloomingdale, you will need to walk about 0.5 miles to reach McKenzie Mountain Wilderness. Follow Goodspeed Road until you see the entrance to the wilderness area on your right.

  • Bicycle

    If you have a bicycle, you can ride along Route 86. Start from the center of Lake Placid and head south on Main Street, then turn onto Route 86. Continue for about 1.5 miles. When you reach the intersection with Route 3, continue straight on Route 86 until you reach Bloomingdale. Once in Bloomingdale, turn onto Goodspeed Road and follow it until you reach McKenzie Mountain Wilderness.
