Car
From Whiteface Mountain, take NY-86 East toward Wilmington. Continue on NY-86 for about 6 miles. You will see signs for Sentinel Range Wilderness. Turn left onto Route 431 (Whiteface Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway) and follow the road until you reach the entrance to the wilderness area. Note: There is a toll fee of approximately $15 for using the highway.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take the bus from Lake Placid to Wilmington. Once you arrive in Wilmington, you can either walk or arrange for a taxi to take you to the Sentinel Range Wilderness entrance, which is about 2 miles from the bus stop. Check the local bus schedule for availability.
Hiking
For those already in the vicinity, you can hike to Sentinel Range Wilderness. Begin at the Whiteface Mountain Ski Area parking lot and follow the hiking trails that lead towards the wilderness area. The hike is approximately 4 miles and can take around 2 hours depending on your pace. Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks.
