Car
If you are travelling by car, start from Te Anau, which is approximately 70 kilometers away from Key Summit Trail. Head northwest on State Highway 94 towards Milford Sound. After about 35 kilometers, look for the sign for the Routeburn Track car park on your left, just before the Divide. Turn left into the car park. From there, follow the marked trail signs to the Key Summit Track. The journey should take around 1 hour.

Public Transportation
If you prefer to use public transportation, take a bus from Te Anau to Milford Sound. Several companies operate this route but ensure you check the schedules as they may vary. Request the driver to drop you off at the Routeburn Track car park. From the car park, follow the signs to the Key Summit Track, which is well-marked. The bus ride takes roughly 1.5 hours, and the bus fare typically ranges from NZD 50 to NZD 70 one way.

Once you arrive at the Routeburn Track car park, you will need to walk to the Key Summit Trailhead. The trail begins at the northern end of the car park. The hike to Key Summit is approximately 2.5 kilometers and will take about 1-1.5 hours to reach the summit, depending on your fitness level. The trail is well-maintained and offers stunning views along the way.
