    Start your journey at the Masterton Railway Station located at 7 Chapel Street. Exit the station and head northwest toward Chapel Street. Turn left onto Queen Street and continue for about 1 kilometer until you reach the intersection with Park Avenue. Turn right onto Park Avenue and walk for another 1.5 kilometers. You will pass the Masterton District Library and the Masterton Health Centre on your left. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Gladstone Road. Turn left onto Gladstone Road and walk for approximately 3.5 kilometers. The Carter Scenic Reserve will be on your right, just after the intersection with Hoggard Street. Look for the entrance sign.

    From Masterton town center, walk to the nearest bus stop at Queen Street by the Clock Tower. Board the bus heading towards Gladstone. The journey will take about 15-20 minutes. Inform the driver that you want to get off at the closest stop to Carter Scenic Reserve, which is on Gladstone Road. Once you disembark, walk back towards the reserve entrance, which will be just a short walk away.

  • Biking

    For a more active approach, you can rent a bike in Masterton. Start at the Masterton i-SITE Visitor Information Centre on Queen Street. Head south along Queen Street until you reach Park Avenue. Turn right onto Park Avenue and continue straight for about 1.5 kilometers. Once you reach Gladstone Road, turn left and bike for approximately 3 kilometers. The Carter Scenic Reserve will be on your right. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow cycling rules for safety.
