Car
If you're driving from any location within Akershus, head towards Oslo. Use the E6 motorway for the quickest route. Follow signs for Oslo and exit onto E18 towards Oslo sentrum. As you approach Oslo, keep left to stay on E18 and follow signs for 'Sentrum'. Once in the city center, follow signs to Akershus festning. There are parking facilities available nearby, but be aware of parking fees, which can range from 30 to 80 NOK per hour depending on the zone.
Public Transportation (Train)
Take a train from any station in Akershus to Oslo Central Station (Oslo S). Trains run frequently, and the journey typically takes between 20 to 40 minutes, depending on your departure station. Upon arrival at Oslo S, follow the signs to the exit and then walk approximately 15 minutes towards Akershus festning. Alternatively, you can catch tram number 12 or 13 from the station towards 'Majorstuen' and get off at 'Akershus Festning' stop.
Public Transportation (Bus)
You can also take a bus from various locations in Akershus to Oslo. Look for bus routes that head to Oslo sentrum, such as buses 300, 350, or 400. Once you arrive in the city, disembark at 'Akershus Festning' stop, which is a short walk to the Historical Building. From Oslo Central Station, head towards Karl Johans gate, continue to the National Theatre, and follow signs to the fortress. It should take around 15-20 minutes to walk there.
