Car
If you're driving to Finnmarksvidda, start from the town of Alta. Take the E6 highway heading north. After approximately 90 kilometers, take the exit towards the Rv 93 road signposted to Kautokeino. Continue on Rv 93 for about 60 kilometers until you reach Kautokeino. From Kautokeino, continue on the Rv 92 road towards Maze. After about 50 kilometers, you will arrive at Finnmarksvidda. Keep an eye out for the signs indicating the plateau as you get closer.
Bus
If you are using public transportation, take a bus from Alta to Kautokeino. Buses are operated by various local services; check the schedule on the website of the bus company (e.g., Nor-Way Bussekspress). The journey takes approximately 2 hours. From Kautokeino, you will need to transfer to a local taxi or arrange for a shuttle service to Maze, as there are no direct buses to Finnmarksvidda. Expect the taxi fare to Maze to be around 500 NOK (approximately $50 USD).
Taxi
If you are already in Kautokeino and prefer a direct route, you can take a taxi to Finnmarksvidda. The distance is about 50 kilometers, and it will take roughly 40 minutes. The estimated fare for this trip is around 800 NOK (approximately $80 USD). Make sure to book your taxi in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons.
Hiking/Walking
For the adventurous, if you are already at nearby locations such as Maze, you can hike to Finnmarksvidda. The terrain can be rugged, so ensure you are well-prepared with appropriate gear and enough supplies. The hike can take several hours depending on your pace.
