If you are driving, head to Alta in Finnmark. From the center of Alta, take the E6 highway heading southeast. Continue on E6 for approximately 10 kilometers. Look for signs directing you towards the Alta Hydroelectric Power Station, which is located at latitude 69.704936 and longitude 23.8188972. Once you see the signs, take a right turn onto the road leading to the dam. The road will take you directly to the Alta Dam area. There is free parking available nearby.
Public Transportation
To reach Alta Dam via public transportation, first take a bus to Alta from nearby towns or cities. If you are in Tromsø, for example, you can take a bus operated by Troms Fylkestrafikk to Alta. Once you arrive at the Alta bus station, you can take local bus line 1 that heads towards the Alta Hydroelectric Power Station. The bus stop closest to the dam is named 'Alta Dam'. Make sure to check the bus schedules in advance as they may vary, particularly on weekends and holidays. The bus fare is approximately 30 NOK.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route without relying on public transportation schedules, consider taking a taxi from Alta city center to Alta Dam. The taxi ride should take around 15 minutes and cost approximately 200-300 NOK, depending on traffic and the taxi service chosen. Make sure to confirm the fare before starting your trip.
