Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you're traveling by car, start from any location in the Lake Erie Islands and head towards the mainland. Take the ferry from South Bass Island or Put-in-Bay to the mainland, which will bring you to the Huron area. The ferry ride typically costs around $8-$10 per person and takes about 20-30 minutes. Once on the mainland, drive east on State Route 2, following signs for Huron. Take the exit for Huron and merge onto Cleveland Road (State Route 113). Continue on Cleveland Road until you reach the intersection with Main Street. Turn left onto Main Street, and then right onto Huron Harbor. Follow Huron Harbor, and look for signs directing you to Huron Lighthouse, located at 41.4046218° N, -82.5438076° W.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can take the ferry from either South Bass Island or Put-in-Bay to the mainland. After disembarking, you will need to catch a local bus or use a rideshare service. Check with local transportation services for bus schedules to Huron, which might require some planning ahead. Be prepared to pay a fare of approximately $2-$5 for the bus ride. Once you arrive in Huron, ask the driver or locals for directions to Huron Lighthouse, which is a short walk from the bus stop.
Bicycle
If you're feeling adventurous and want to experience the beautiful scenery, consider biking from the ferry landing. Once you arrive on the mainland, you can rent a bicycle from local rental shops. Ride along the scenic routes heading east on State Route 2, then follow the same directions as for driving. This option allows you to enjoy the fresh air and sights along the way, but be prepared for a longer journey. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow all traffic laws.
