To reach the Ouachita Mountains from any location in Kiamichi Country, start by heading to the nearest major road, which is State Highway 2. Depending on your specific location, you may need to navigate local roads to find Highway 2. From there, drive north on Highway 2 until you reach the junction with U.S. Highway 271. Turn right onto U.S. Highway 271, which will lead you toward the town of Wilburton. Continue on U.S. Highway 271 for approximately 20 miles, passing through Wilburton, until you reach the intersection with State Highway 1. Turn left onto State Highway 1. After about 10 miles, you will enter the Ouachita National Forest area. Continue on Highway 1 for another 15 miles, and you will arrive at the Ouachita Mountains, specifically around the coordinates (34.5003918, -94.5004891). Note that parking may be available at various trailheads and scenic viewpoints, but ensure to check for any parking fees that may apply.
