Hi, I'm Eve. Here are a few practical things to know before exploring Masirah Lighthouse.
Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are driving to Masirah Lighthouse, start from the main town of Masirah Island, known as Ras Al Jinz. Head southwest towards the coast on the main road (Route 23). Continue following the road for about 23 kilometers. You will see signs for the lighthouse. As you get closer, take the turn off towards the lighthouse, which will be marked. The road may become unpaved, but it is accessible with a standard car. The lighthouse is located at the coordinates 20.179074 latitude and 58.6530018 longitude.
Public Transportation
Public transportation options are limited on Masirah Island, but you can inquire about local taxi services or shared vans that operate from Ras Al Jinz to various tourist destinations. To reach Masirah Lighthouse, ask the driver to take you to the lighthouse, or provide them with the coordinates (20.179074, 58.6530018). Be prepared for a small fare, typically ranging from 5 to 10 Omani Riyals, depending on the distance and negotiation.
Walking
If you are staying near the lighthouse area, you can opt to walk. From the nearest accommodation, head towards the coastal road and follow the pathway leading to the lighthouse. The distance may vary, but it will likely take around 30-45 minutes on foot. Ensure you have appropriate footwear and stay hydrated, especially in the warmer months.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle in Ras Al Jinz. Head southwest on Route 23, following the same path as vehicles. The ride will take approximately 1-1.5 hours depending on your pace. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow local traffic rules. The path is relatively flat, but be cautious of any loose gravel on the unpaved sections.
