Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start by taking US-26 E from anywhere in Clackamas County. Drive for approximately 30 miles until you reach the intersection with OR-224. Take a left onto OR-224 N, which will lead you toward Estacada. Continue on OR-224 for about 8 miles before making a right turn onto SE 3rd Ave. This road will lead you to the entrance of the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness area. Make sure to have a map or GPS handy, as cell service can be spotty in the wilderness.

• Public Transportation

  For those relying on public transportation, start by taking the TriMet MAX Light Rail to the Gresham City Hall station. From there, transfer to the 26 - Mount Hood Express bus. This bus will take you to the Mt. Hood area, but be sure to check the bus schedule ahead of time as it may not run frequently. Once you arrive at the closest stop to Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness, you will need to walk approximately 2 miles to the main entrance. Be prepared for a hike, and consider using a rideshare app if the distance is too challenging to walk.

• Bicycle

  If you're adventurous and wish to bike to Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness, take the same route as the car option via US-26 E. However, be aware that this route includes some steep climbs and may not be suitable for inexperienced cyclists. Plan for a longer trip, and ensure your bike is in good working condition. Bring plenty of water and snacks, as there are limited resources along the way.

• Hiking

  For those already near the wilderness area and looking to hike in, you can access several trailheads from surrounding roads. Make sure to check local maps for trails leading into the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness. It is recommended to start early in the day and carry appropriate gear including a map, compass, and sufficient supplies for a safe hiking experience.
