Car
From Lakeview, Oregon, take OR-140 E toward Klamath Falls. Merge onto US-395 N and continue for approximately 50 miles until you reach the junction with OR-31 N. Take OR-31 N for about 30 miles. You will reach Summer Lake, then continue on OR-31 N until you reach the junction with US-20 E. Turn right onto US-20 E and follow it for about 20 miles until you reach Prineville. From Prineville, take NE 3rd St and head northeast toward NE 10th St. Turn right onto NE 10th St and follow it until you reach the entrance to the Steins Pillar Trailhead.
Public Transportation
Currently, there is limited public transportation in Lake County. The nearest bus service is available through the Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council (COIC). You would need to take a bus to Bend, Oregon, and then transfer to a service that goes to Prineville. Once in Prineville, a taxi or rideshare service can be used to reach the Steins Pillar Trailhead. Be sure to check COIC's schedule for current routes and fares.
Hiking
Once you arrive at the Steins Pillar Trailhead, prepare for a challenging hike to reach Steins Pillar itself. The trail is approximately 4 miles round trip and can be steep in places. Ensure you have good hiking shoes, water, and snacks. The views along the trail are rewarding, but be prepared for a workout!
