Car
From Medford, OR, take I-5 North for about 25 miles. Exit at US-62 towards Crater Lake. Follow US-62 for approximately 45 miles, enjoying the scenic views along the way. When you reach the entrance to Crater Lake National Park, pay the entrance fee (currently $30 per vehicle) which is valid for 7 days. Continue driving until you reach the Rim Drive. Follow Rim Drive until you see the signs for Plaikni Falls. Park in the designated area and begin your hike to the falls.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, you can take the Rogue Valley Transit District bus from Medford to Klamath Falls, but note that this route does not directly serve Crater Lake. To get closer to Plaikni Falls, take the bus to the nearest point and then consider renting a car or arranging a taxi service for the remaining distance. Alternatively, check for seasonal shuttle services that may operate between Klamath Falls and Crater Lake National Park.
Bicycle
For the adventurous, consider biking from Medford. Follow the same route as the car guidance, but be prepared for a long journey. Ensure your bike is in good condition and plan for a multi-day trip as this is over 70 miles one way. There are campgrounds available in Crater Lake National Park if you wish to spend the night.
Hiking
If you are already within the Crater Lake National Park, you can access Plaikni Falls via the Plaikni Falls Trail. The trailhead is located near the parking area. It is a 1-mile round trip hike that is relatively easy and offers beautiful views of the falls. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking gear and carry water.
