Car
From Silver Falls State Park, head northeast on Silver Falls Hwy SE (OR-214) for about 8 miles. Continue on OR-214 until you reach the junction with N Fork Rd. Turn left onto N Fork Rd and follow it for approximately 7 miles. You will see signs for Opal Creek Wilderness. The parking area is located at 22985 N Fork Rd, Lyons, OR 97358. Note that there may be a parking fee, so be prepared with cash or a credit card.
Public Transportation
Currently, there are limited public transportation options directly to Opal Creek Wilderness. However, you can take a bus from Silverton to Salem, and then transfer to a bus heading towards Lyons. Once you arrive in Lyons, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to cover the remaining distance of approximately 5 miles to reach the Opal Creek Wilderness trailhead at 22985 N Fork Rd. It’s advisable to check the local bus schedules in advance for the most efficient routing.
Hiking
If you are already at Silver Falls State Park and enjoy hiking, consider taking the trail from the park towards Opal Creek Wilderness. This hike is approximately 12 miles and can take several hours. Be sure to carry enough water, snacks, and a map, as this route is less traveled and may require navigation skills. After reaching the wilderness area, you will find stunning scenery and a variety of trails to explore.
